Cannabis EducationProducts What Do You Need To Know About Topicals

Jun 06, 2023

There’s no denying that marijuana is one of the most versatile products on the market. Whether you want to enjoy recreationally, soothe sore muscles, or just need a little bit of help falling asleep, there is a product or strain made with a specific purpose in mind. So let’s talk about topicals and what they can do for you.

Topicals Vs Ingestion

When we think about weed, the first thing that comes to mind is usually either smoking or taking edibles. Those are the easiest ways for THC to make its way into the bloodstream and ultimately to the brain. When you are looking to get high, ingestion is the best way to go.

Topicals work a little bit differently though. If you don’t want to or can’t smoke and still want some effects of THC, they make for an excellent alternative. You may get a little bit of a high depending on the ratio of THC to CBD, but that isn’t usually the point of a topical. The top layers of your skin are meant to keep chemicals out of your bloodstream, so the THC isn’t absorbed as it would be with something ingested.

Instead, the THC and CBD in a topical works with receptors in the top layers of your skin. Because they can’t cross into the bloodstream, the effects are going to be localized to wherever you apply it.

What Kinds Of Topicals Are There?

Just like smokables or edibles, there are plenty of different topical products to choose from! Here are a few that you can start with.

Whether you just want to add something to your skincare routine, deal with a painful problem area, or add a kick to your bath, there’s a topical product exactly for your needs. However, not all topicals are built the same.

Transdermal products are a bit different than your standard topical. While creams or bath bombs are only effective for a short time and are localized to a small area, transdermal products work similarly to a nicotine patch. When you stick one somewhere on your body with good circulation, like your inner arm or leg, they release a slow and hours-long stream of THC. It won’t get you the same level of high as an ingested product, but you’ll feel the slow-burn for hours or even a whole day.
