Education THC vs. CBD: What’s the Difference?
Aug 29, 2022Wondering what exactly the difference between THC and CBD is? Here are the basics you should know.
Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are both plant compounds found in cannabis. When consumed, they both interact with the body’s cannabinoid receptors, but produce different results. They both stimulate the release of neurotransmitters, brain chemicals that impact pain, stress, sleep, and more. CBD and THC are made up of the exact same atoms, but the atoms are arranged in a different way, which is why they affect the body differently.
Main Differences Between THC & CBD
THC
THC is known for its psychoactive effect because it gives you the feeling of being high. THC is the compound that produces the feeling of euphoria and intoxication that many of us associate with cannabis use. THC is found in both cannabis and hemp, but hemp contains very low amounts of THC.
You can consume THC in a lot of different ways, including flower, tinctures, edibles, beverages, shatter, hash, topicals, and more.
CBD
CBD does not produce the intoxicated feeling of being high, but it does affect the mind and can produce a feeling of calm in many people. CBD is found in both cannabis and hemp in similar concentrations. CBD is a good choice for those who want the effects of cannabis without the feeling of being high.
Whenever you see a topical cannabis product, like a face mask or lip balm, it is usually higher in CBD than THC, or may only contain CBD. CBD can also be consumed in many other forms, including flower, shatter, edibles, and more.
