Common Cannabis Terms

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds in cannabis that react with receptors in the body to produce the effects of cannabis, including feeling high or more relaxed. THC and CBD are both examples of cannabinoids.

CBD

CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is one of the cannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp products. CBD does not make you feel high when you consume it, but gives you the other benefits of using cannabis.

Concentrate

A concentrate is a highly potent product made by extracting and condensing the cannabinoids and terpenes from a cannabis plant. Examples of concentrates include hash, shatter, budder, live resin, and wax.

Dabbing

Dabbing is when you place or “dab” a small amount of a cannabis concentrate onto a hot surface and inhale the vapor it produces. Dabbing increases the potency of the concentrate and should be done with caution, especially if you have never tried it before.

Flower

“Flower” refers to buds of the cannabis plant that have been trimmed, dried, and are ready for consumption. Flower comes in many different strains with varying amounts of CBD and THC, as well as different aromas and flavours.

Hash

Hash is a type of cannabis concentrate which is made by separating trichomes from the cannabis plant and repeatedly compressing them until they form a solid piece, or brick. Hash can be smoked on its own or mixed with flower, or orally ingested in edibles.

Hybrid

A hybrid is a cannabis strain that is a combination of both an indica and a sativa. Hybrids have characteristics and effects similar to both indica and sativa strains, and are a good choice for those looking for the best of both worlds.

Indica

An indica is one of the two main types of cannabis strains. Indica strains are known for producing relaxing physical effects and more of a body high than sativa strains.

Sativa

A sativa is the other main type of cannabis strain, alongside indica. Sativa strains are known for producing mental effects and more of a head high than indica strains.

Terpenes

Terpenes are plant compounds found in many fragrant plants, including cannabis. They are what give different cannabis strains their unique aroma and flavour.

THC

THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of the cannabinoids found in cannabis products. THC is a psychoactive compound that produces a feeling of being high when consumed.

Trichomes

Trichomes are the little hair-like structures that can be seen on the surface of a cannabis plant. They produce resin and are where the majority of the plant’s cannabinoids (THC and CBD) are located.
